Crittall is the original English steel-window brand. We make Crittall-style steel doors: the same slim-framed, gridded-glass look, designed and hand-made here in New Zealand and finished to any colour.
Steel is far stronger than aluminium, so the frames and glazing bars can be much slimmer. That means more glass, finer sightlines and the true Crittall look. Aluminium look-alikes cost less but need chunkier frames, and the bars are often stuck-on strips. If you want the real thing, it’s steel.
Clear, reeded or fluted glass. Fluted (reeded) glass softens the view and adds privacy while still passing light, which is popular for studies, ensuites, pantries and wardrobes.
Yes, always. Every door is glazed with safety glass, and double glazing is available for better warmth and sound control.
No. The gridded look comes from slim steel glazing bars fitted to a single sheet of glass, so you get the classic Crittall pattern without dozens of separate panes to seal. It is easier to clean, and it makes double glazing practical.
Powder-coated or painted to any colour. Matte black is the classic Crittall look, and we also make steel doors in white or any powder-coat colour to match your scheme.
Yes. We can finish steel doors in a brass-look powder coat from the Dulux range, for a warm aged-brass look without the upkeep of real brass.

Yes. Every piece can be finished in a colour from the Dulux or Resene ranges, or in a completely custom colour. We use both powder-coat and wet paint systems over a zinc-rich primer, and choose the right one for the piece, so hardware and handles can be colour-matched too.
The Dulux powder system over a zinc-rich primer: the steel is blasted, primed and powder-coated, so it is sealed against water and easy to keep clean. Any colour from the Dulux or Resene ranges, or a custom colour.
Not when they are finished properly. Every ARC steel door is abrasive-blasted, zinc-primed and powder-coated or wet-painted, which seals the steel completely. Our doors are made for interior use and wet rooms, where the coating will last the life of the house.
Our focus is interior steel doors, partitions and wet-room doors. If your project calls for exterior steel glazing, talk to us early so we can advise on thermal breaks, weather sealing and whether it is the right choice for your site.
Our standard sections are around 25 to 40mm wide, far slimmer than aluminium or timber glazing, which is what gives Crittall-style doors their fine line. Larger doors and glazed screens use slightly heavier sections for stiffness, and we draw every door to suit the opening.
