Designer steel doors, Crittall style, made in Christchurch

ARC Design Studio makes bespoke designer steel doors in the Crittall style: slim steel frames and fine gridded glass that fill a home with light. Choose single (hinged), sliding, pivot or arched steel doors, powder-coated in black, brass, bronze or white, with clear, reeded or fluted glass. Every door is designed and hand-made in our Christchurch workshop, backed by Bromley Steel and three decades of structural steel and certified welders, so you get a designer piece engineered to last. We also work directly with architects and interior designers, fabricating steel doors to their drawings. Every door is bespoke, so we can make whatever design you or your architect have in mind, or adapt one of ours, and powder-coat or paint it to any colour.

We make and install steel doors across Christchurch and its southern suburbs, and supply Crittall-style steel doors to Queenstown, Wānaka, Central Otago and throughout the South Island. For projects outside Christchurch we work with your builder or installer to arrange a smooth fit. Talk to us about your project.

Why choose steel joinery?

Steel lets us make the slimmest possible frames, so you get more glass, more light and finer sightlines than timber or aluminium can offer. It is strong and dimensionally stable, so even large doors stay true and swing, slide or pivot smoothly for decades. Steel joinery takes any finish, powder-coated or painted to any colour, and every piece is bespoke and made to order, backed by Bromley Steel’s structural engineering and certified welders. The result is a genuine architectural feature that adds character, light and long-term value to a home.

What are Crittall-style steel doors?

Crittall-style steel doors are internal doors with slim steel frames and a fine grid of glass panes, named after the classic English Crittall windows. ARC makes them to order in Christchurch as single (hinged), sliding, pivot and arched steel doors, with clear or reeded fluted glass.

Can you make a steel door to my own design?

Yes. Every steel door is bespoke. We make whatever design you or your architect have in mind, adapt one of ours, or work from a sketch, then engineer and hand-make it. The finished door can be powder-coated or painted to any colour.

Do you provide specifications and CAD drawings?

Yes. We can take your measurements on site and provide CAD drawings to your exact specification, so you, your architect and your builder have everything you need to approve the design and install it. Send us your opening sizes to get started.

What is the difference between Crittall and Crittall-style steel doors?

Crittall is the original English steel-window brand. We make Crittall-style steel doors: the same slim-framed, gridded-glass look, designed and hand-made here in New Zealand and finished to any colour.

Do you make designer steel doors for Queenstown and Wānaka?

Yes. We make bespoke designer steel doors to order in Christchurch and deliver them to Queenstown, Wānaka, Central Otago and across the South Island. We install throughout Christchurch, and for projects beyond the city we work with your builder or installer to get them fitted.

What glass can I have in a steel door?

Clear, reeded or fluted glass. Fluted (reeded) glass softens the view and adds privacy while still passing light, which is popular for studies, ensuites, pantries and wardrobes.

What finishes and colours do your steel doors come in?

Powder-coated or painted to any colour. Matte black is the classic Crittall look, and we also make steel doors in brass, bronze, white or any shade to match your scheme.

How much do designer steel doors cost?

Every steel door is made to order, so the price depends on size, style (single, sliding, pivot or arched), glass and finish. Send us your opening sizes and we will give you a quote.
